Frequently Asked Questions
If you’re looking for therapy FAQs in Alpine, Utah, you’re in the right place. Below are answers to common questions about therapy, what to expect, and how the process works.

I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?
Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the ability to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then, and you already have strengths you’ve used before that, for whatever reason, aren’t working right now. Because of this, the problem may feel overwhelming and make it difficult to access those strengths. In our work together, I’ll help you identify those strengths and show you how to apply them again in your current situation.
What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?
The difference is between someone who can do something and someone who has the training and experience to do it professionally. A mental health professional can help you see your situation in a new way, build new skills, offer different perspectives, and listen without judgment or expectations. They can also help you better understand yourself. Therapy is completely confidential, so you don’t have to worry about others “knowing your business.” And when a situation brings up a lot of emotion, relying only on a friend or family member can sometimes make things more complicated. As you begin to feel better, you might even notice yourself pulling away from that person so you’re not reminded of that difficult time.
Why shouldn’t I just take medication?
Medication alone cannot solve all issues. What medication does is treat the symptoms. Together, we explore the root of the issue, dig into your patterns, and actively build strategies to help you reach your personal and relational goals.
Medication can be very effective and is sometimes needed in conjunction with therapy.
How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?
Everyone comes to therapy with different needs and goals, so therapy won’t look the same for everyone. I tailor my approach to what you need and where you are.
How long will it take?
There’s no exact timeline for therapy. Everyone’s situation is unique, and the length of the process depends on your goals, your commitment, and what’s bringing you here.
I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?
I’m so glad you’re dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your participation matters, and it plays a big role in your progress. We typically only meet once a week, so the work you do outside of sessions is what really supports your growth.
